Metamorphosis
Presented by Calvin Smith
Lie-down tragedy meets stand-up comedy with music!
A theatrical and audiovisual Kaleidoscope, and an emotional rollercoaster, Calvin Smith has written an altogether gut-wrenching and yet hilarious and inspiring work.
The Brisbane Planetarium is an experience in its own right, with super-comfy seating, surround sound, and a full dome onto which video will be projected. It is a small, intimate, “in-the-round” venue that promises an immersive audio visual and theatrical experience.
With a mix of dramatic enactment, songs, and film (projected right onto the dome!) you will be taken into the world of a sensitive little boy navigating the emotional tumult caused by violence, neglect, and the hostile teaching and learning environment of the schools of the era.
We will laugh, and cry, and discover together that, although there is much work to be done for men to transform into metaphorical “butterflies”, there is hope that we can mend men’s hearts and work together for a better world.
*Content warning: Allusions to / simulations of parental violence, child abuse, and neglect, references to non-consensual circumcision, and corporal punishment.
