The cult classic, Little Shop of Horrors comes to the Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast audiences will have the opportunity to see the smash broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors at Montessori International College this April. The cult classic about a flesh eating plant is being presented as part of the 2022 Anywhere Festival program.
Anywhere Festival aims to bring performance to anywhere but traditional theatre spaces. From pools, to mazes, bookshops and even the bathrooms at a pub, the festival has seen truly unique settings for its shows and this year’s Little Shop of Horrors is no exception.
With both a Sunshine Coast and a Brisbane season, the show is being staged at Montessori International College’s, open air, Roundhouse and at EC Venue respectively.
Marina de Jager, co-producer of the show, said: “We’re excited to bring this incredible show to life and showcase the exceptional talent that the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
“We’ve got dancers, singers, actors, not to mention the five puppets that play Audrey II – the flesh eating plant, so there’s a lot happening on stage.”
Award winning Director, Riley Cope has loved growing his craft in this reimagined production. “It’s great to give this classic musical a fresh spin as part of the Anywhere Festival.”
Telling the story of bumbling yet lovable shop assistant Seymore who pines after co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse he discovers an unusual plant whom he names Audrey II, which only feeds on human blood and as time passes Audrey II gets more demanding and asks for human flesh.
Set in 1960s New York, the show is filled with famous showstoppers such as Downtown, Suddenly Seymore and Somewhere That’s Green.
This quirky tale is a feast to the eyes with dazzling costumes, choreography, props and perhaps most famously – the growing puppet plant that is Audrey II. A true spectacular!
Tickets are now on sale through the Anywhere Festival website.
