Review: That Drag Show

Joy. Absolute joy is the summary I’d give for That Drag Show on Friday night (26th July) at Arcana, Moorooka. Neither I, nor the friend I went with, had been to a drag show before. We both loved every minute.

The costumes, oh my god the costumes. Feasts for the eyes, every one. Each new act brought out a collective gasp from the audience. Sequins. Feathers. Beads. Frills. Leather. Satin. Every texture, every colour, every shape imaginable. I couldn’t look away.

The night had a great mix of performances. Lots of dance, some singing, and, my personal favourite, an aerial ribbon routine (I’m an absolute sucker for aerials). Each performer had a very distinct personality and stage presence, including the two what you might call “chorus” dancers. A celebration of what made each performer unique in talent, style, and appearance.

I’m no night owl. I’m usually ready to fall asleep by about 9pm, no matter where I am or what I’m doing. But I came out of That Drag Show fully energised. Wholly satisfied. Wanting more. This was just. So. Much. Fun.
