Always curious to see something different, learn about an emerging artist, have a new experience or be challenged by a creative interpretation, I wasn’t sure what to expect but Destructive Nature by Handlight Productions perfectly satisfied my curiosity.
Starting the show with four questions (and don’t worry it doesn’t require audience participation) Destructive Nature is loosely based on the Greek myth of narcissism. It flows through 5 short but powerful presentations encompassing modern dance, film, music, theatre and ethereal interpretation of self-adoration, obsession and love though to the disconnection and insecurity driven by social media to highlight the narrative of worshipping the self above all – the significance of the questions revealed at the end.
This is an innovative and creative work by Handlight Production team performed by Madeline Armit and Flavia Carrillo and supported by Daniel Giorgio. The performances were energetic and full of expression in a predominantly non-verbal way.
Conspiracy House added to the captivation in this engaging show and was a perfect venue for small audience. Some merchandise and drinks were available, and the warmth and anticipation were palpable. It certainly added to the premise of ‘anywhere’ in Anywhere Festival!
I will definitely be looking out for future shows by Handlight Productions and can’t wait to see how they may stimulate me with their creativity. Keep up the great work and thanks for a thoroughly entertaining 50 minutes!
