Joanne is an emerging writer, creative producer and director who is currently undertaking a PhD in Screenwriting at Griffith Film School. Buttercup and Venus: Cowkeepers Extraordinaire marks Joanne’s first theatre production. Her writing is informed by social justice issues, gender inequity related to ageing, and the representation of older women on screen.

Joanne co-produced the inaugural Women in Film and Television online film festival (funded by Screen Queensland in 2021) and directed the short documentary Mei-Mei, Speak More Chinese (2023). Her chat show Chop Chat Cook (Episodes 1–34) is available on her YouTube channel. As an Arts Reviewer, Joanne reviewed performances for Brisbane Festival and Culture Box. She was also a finalist in the Brisbane Festival Portrait Photography Competition in 2015 and 2016.

Joanne holds a Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Asian and International Studies with Mandarin language. Prior to following her love of the arts, Joanne’s professional background was in project management with the Australian Agency for International Development, as a manager in the community services sector and as a registered nurse.
