A fantastic workshop.. can’t wait to see the show(girls)!

As part of their participation in the 2021 Anywhere Festival, Evoke Dance and Theatre Company held the Pink Martini Pop Up Cabaret Workshop on Saturday 8th May. A free dance and singing workshop, at The Hills District Community Centre, this one-off event offered participants the option of later ‘taking to the stage’ as part of the evening show.

Angelique Marie is not only the producer and star of Pink Martini Pop Up Cabaret, but also proved to be a fantastic dance teacher (even the photographer started to sashay around the room…). And Jamie Lin Shelton (star and singing coach) has an amazing voice and stage presence. I can’t wait to see Jamie’s ‘Yolanda’—particularly once accompanied by all of the showgirls, and with live music.

If the workshop is anything to go by, Pink Martini Pop Up Cabaret is going to be a fun evening out—with live music, fabulous singing, lavish costumes, and amazing showgirls. Plus a chorus that might just have a few new performers briefly taking to the stage for the first time. There may still be time to grab a ticket—if you are quick!

Verdict: A fascinating insight into putting a show together. Looking forward to seeing the cabaret!

Audience tip: Pink Martini Pop Up Cabaret is at two venues during the 2021 Anywhere Festival: The Arana Hills District Community Centre (8 May) and Moorooka’s Arcana (14-16 May) (7:30pm on 8th & 14th, 5:30pm on 15th and 6:15 on 16th). Tickets $35 ($25 concession).
