Review: Limelight Brisbane
Review and images by Georgia Haupt
Limelight Brisbane stands as a magnificent celebration of local artistic talent, bringing together some of Queensland’s finest emerging and established artists across dance, drama, singing, and visual arts. Facilitated by Introspect Theatre Company and expertly presented by Cindy Sykes and Robyn Payne, this annual showcase demonstrates the incredible depth of creativity flourishing in our local arts community.

The caliber of judging matched the quality of performances, with distinguished industry professionals evaluating each category. Rob Pensalfini, artistic director of Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble, presided over Drama; Sally Muntz, a dancer and teacher with an impressive and decorated career judged Dance; interdisciplinary artist Micah Rustichelli, known for their work in performance, sculpture, and painting, evaluated Visual Arts; and Zac Bradford, director of the Australian studio for New York Vocal Coaching, assessed the Singing category.

The evening’s winners showcased remarkable diversity and skill. In Dance, Olivia Beattie from Red Music and Dance claimed the judges’ prize, while duo Lacie and Macie from That’s Dance and Acrobatics captured hearts with the people’s choice award. Drama saw Jake Hollingsworth and Ashlee Hermann from Redcliffe Musical Theatre triumph with their scene from ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’, while Brisbane Junior Theatre’s spirited performance of ’13’ earned people’s choice honors.
Visual Arts recognition went to Craig Sloss for the judges’ award, and Sandra Miller for people’s choice, while the Singing category celebrated Natalie Murtagh as the winner, with duo Lily Chippendale and Ashlie Beauchamp taking people’s choice.

The breadth of participating organisations was impressive, featuring performances from Roar Academy, That’s Dance and Acrobatics, Brisbane Junior Theatre, Red Music and Dance, Northpine Christian College, Brisbane Dance Theatre, Redcliffe Musical Theatre, Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble, Sharon Alback Dance Centre, Introspect Theatre Company, and Five Star Dance Academy, alongside independent acts from Natalie Murtagh and duo Ashlie Beauchamp and Lily Chippendale. Visual artworks by Craig Sloss, Jade Sweeny, Rebecca Brisk, Leisa Clark, Sandra Miller, and Emmilyne Major provided stunning displays throughout the venue.
Limelight Brisbane proves itself as more than an afternoon of entertainment – it is an inspiring testament to the local arts leaders and institutions nurturing Queensland’s creative future, fostering community connection through shared appreciation of artistic excellence.
