Internships at Anywhere Festival

We have now opened our internships for 2023 in Brisbane and Moreton Bay region.

The internships are to begin over early February and through to the festivals in May and cover a whole range of skills as we prepare for the 2023 Anywhere Festival in Brisbane and Moreton Bay.

Internships can be tailored for different skill levels or areas of interest. The three internships on offer are:

  • Brisbane Anywhere Festival Director Internship (for Brisbane based applicants)
  • Moreton Bay Anywhere Festival Director Internship (for Moreton Bay based applicants)
  • Marketing Internship (Moreton Bay or Brisbane based applicants)

Brisbane Festival Director Internship

Develop the skills to be a Festival Director for live performance (theatre, circus, comedy, dance, immersive) with hands on experience working directly with the Festival Director of the Brisbane Anywhere Festival running 4-21 May 2022. 

Anywhere Festival is a festival of performances anywhere but a theatre, in its twelfth year in Brisbane and third year in Moreton Bay. By using non theatre spaces, Anywhere has developed an agile approach for independent performers to produce theatre and performances anywhere.

The role will be of interest for anyone wanting practical real world training in the producing of live performance from curating and programming, risk assessment, marketing, management, grants writing and show delivery.

Training and skills development is a priority for Anywhere Festival and along with the support and interaction within the Anywhere Festival team, you will also get access to Producing Live Performance Anywhere a unique online course stepping live performance performers and producers from inception to show delivery.

Moreton Bay Festival Director Internship

Develop the skills to be a Festival Director for live performance (theatre, circus, comedy, dance, immersive) with hands on experience working directly with the team delivering the Moreton Bay Anywhere Festival running 13 May to 4 June 2023. 


Anywhere Festival is a festival of performances anywhere but a theatre, in its twelfth year in Brisbane and third year in Moreton Bay. 

By using non theatre spaces, Anywhere has been able to continue to run as a festival regardless of COVID restrictions by delivering online, outdoors and in adaptable indoor spaces.

The role will be of interest for anyone wanting practical real world training in the producing of live performance from curating and programming, risk assessment, marketing, management, grants writing and show delivery.

Interns from last year’s intake have gone on to use the skills developed to produce their own shows and work for festival partners including council

Training and skills development is a priority for Anywhere Festival and along with the support and interaction within the Anywhere Festival team, you will also get access to Producing Live Performance Anywhere a unique online course stepping live performance performers and producers from inception to show delivery. 

Anywhere Festival Marketing Internship

You will develop real life skills working on the planning and implementation of the marketing plan for Anywhere Festival in Brisbane and Moreton Bay running between May to June 2023.

Anywhere Festival is a festival of performances anywhere but a theatre, in its twelfth year. By using non theatre spaces, Anywhere has been able to continue to run as a festival regardless of COVID restrictions by delivering online, outdoors and in adaptable indoor spaces.

The role will be of interest for anyone wanting practical real world training in all the elements of marketing live performance, from the strategy, planning and management stages, to media, social media, print materials, web site, advertising.

Interns from last year’s intake have gone on to use the skills developed to produce their own shows and work for festival partners. 

Training and skills development is a priority for Anywhere Festival and along with the support and interaction within the Anywhere Festival team, you will also get access to Producing Live Performance Anywhere a unique online course stepping live performance performers and producers from inception to show delivery. 

Other Details

  • Timing is flexible and can be done as whole or part days from an internship spread from the start of February to the festivals in May to a more intensive short term internship, depending on what works best for you. This would be agreed up front.*
  • Attendance for Brisbane will be mostly at 23 Manning Street, South Brisbane with the Moreton Bay internship is based around North Lakes. A mixture of in person attendance and offline.
  • The internship can be tailored to different experience levels as professional development regardless of experience.
  • All internships are about skills development and are unpaid.

* If you are applying as a QUT Creative Industries student, it is a standard 100 hours. For anyone applying for an an internship separate to university, the hours are flexible, but a total of 100 hours is a good number to have the chance to experience a range of elements within the festival organisation.

Anywhere Fringe runs 19 July to 4 August and we are looking to start internships during March for the lead to the festival.
