FAT GIRL: A fierce, tender rebellion in flesh and verse

AUGUST 1–3 | Woolloongabba, QLD
Fri 7.30PM | Sat 7.30PM | Sun 12PM & 6.30PM

“It’s like reading her diary – it’s very intimate.”

Fat Girl is a bold, unapologetic love letter to tummy fat and food—and a big f*ck you to body dysmorphia, societal norms, and inner demons.

Written and performed by Danielle Aquilina—award-winning playwright, 2024 Ruckus Slam Poetry finalist, and Physical Theatre Internship graduate —Fat Girl is a one-woman show that unearths the raw, tangled truth of living in a body the world tells you to shrink. It fuses slam poetry, physical theatre, and spoken word to explore the weight of shame, the ache of hunger, and the strength it takes to stay soft in a hard world.

Drawing from her background in improvisational comedy and live performance, Danielle brings a rare and disarming honesty to the stage. With a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Performance) and a deep commitment to telling stories that matter, her work balances vulnerability and power—inviting laughter, tears, and radical self-reflection.

“Gut-punching and heartwarming at the same time”

This is not a self-help seminar. This is not a sugar-coated narrative about body positivity. Fat Girl is the mess before the healing. The night before the apology. The sharp breath before the mirror. It is a body speaking for itself. For anyone who’s ever felt the need to censor their body, Fat Girl offers a
moment of truth. A rebellion in stretch marks and softness. A deeply personal yet universal story of reclaiming space, voice, and worth.
