“The Heartbreak Club” is a dark comedy about heartbreak, healing, and (possibly) homicide. This hilarious new comedy was written by Gold Coast playwright Kate Paraskevos, and was the audience-picked winner of Thundering Productions’ 2025 New Voices Scratch Night.

In the depths of Veronica’s suburban basement, four women – each scorned by the same ex-boyfriend – form a secret support group to help each other heal. Veronica, the brooding mastermind; Tess, the logical tech genius; and Neve, the wildly inappropriate chaos goblin, have all been chewed up and spat out by their manipulative mutual ex, Rob. Newcomer Claudia – freshly dumped by Rob and emotionally bruised – accepts a mysterious invitation to join the group. At first, she’s hesitant, but as she tells the women similar tales of Rob’s gaslighting, threats, and bad behaviour, the group spiral into full-blown vigilante mode and come to a decision.

Rob “the knob” must die.

Armed with sarcasm, snacks, and a whiteboard covered in red string, the women hatch hilariously misguided murder plots involving poisoned protein shakes, sleep apnea machines, and other ill-fated accidents. As the women navigate paranoia, suspicion, secrets unraveling, and friendships fracturing, The Heartbreak Club becomes less about payback – and more about finding your people.
