“the voice of her generation” – Tim Ferguson, Australian comedian, screenwriter and author
Joanne Tindale and the 2026 Brisbane Anywhere Festival present a stand-up comedy about Oscar-winning films, the world’s most famous women and the world’s oldest profession.
Invite your friends, your family and your neighbours, Joanne is bringing her new one woman show to the 2026 Brisbane Anywhere Festival. Fresh from her sold out short cowmedy play Buttercup and Venus: Cowkeepers Extraordinaire at the 2025 Anywhere Festival, Joanne presents Call Me Grandma (and I’ll run for the hills).
As a mature age student at film school, Joanne was dismayed to discover that older women on screen were not authentically portrayed, nor were they in powerful leadership roles. This is important because if we all see on screen are women as mothers, grandmothers, secretaries, sex workers or exotic dancers – what will our daughters aspire to? What will our sons expect? How can we be it, if we can’t see it?
Come along to this short comedy performance about how older women are represented on screen. Discover how we can change the world and why it matters – because what we watch on screen shapes and reflects attitudes and beliefs about gender norms in society.
