Did you know that in concert programs worldwide, only about 2% content is music by women composers? Or that ABC aims to broadcast around a mere 12% of music by women?
This is Muses Trio’s tenth year of celebrating music by women, performed by women. Our programs have featured 100% content by the women since the trio’s inception, and we are the only ensemble in Australia doing so.

Our new show for Anywhere Festival 2022 takes the intimacy of chamber music out of the concert halls into the stunning event space in Yeerongpilly, in fact a plant shop called Plant Empire. Concert goers who love exploring gorgeous new programs and discovering Brisbane’s little-known gems will love experiencing French chamber music by women to swoon over in a stunning event space, along with French treats, wine, great coffee, browsing an amazing plant shop featuring works by local artisans, and enjoy supporting creative women in their pursuits of artistic excellence.

Muses Trio are some of Australia’s leading and most exciting musicians in contemporary classical music, known for their edgy, spine tingling and virtuosic performance style: Christa Powell (violin), Louise King (cello) and Therese Milanovic (piano). Therese has lived in Yeronga since 2008, and has witnessed her neighbours suffer both the devastating 2011 and 2022 floods. “It’s been so tough for local businesses in the last few years, with Covid, lockdowns, and now again major floods decimating Yeronga and surrounds.. it’s heartbreaking. I wanted to bring a first-class event to my local area, to support and draw attention to local businesses such as Plant Empire in the Yeerongpilly Creative Precinct. All profits from the bar on the night will be fed back to Hyde Rd Kindy, where my son attends. I’m glad to be able to support my beautiful area in a small way during these tough times.”

Almost French features dreamy works by French women composers: Lili Boulanger, Melanie Bonis, a Muses favourite by Nadia Boulanger, Tailleferre from the hugely influential Les Six, a vibrant new work by young superstar Camille Pépin and a world premiere by Sally Greenaway (AUS), inspired by French impressionist artists.

“An edgy, compelling, powerful, memorable and often-moving performance”, “spine-chilling” Catherine Lawrence, Anywhere Festival 2016.

“…when they perform together, something magical happens…held audience members in the palm of their hands the minute they stepped on stage” – Hushbiz.com
