Review: Bawdy Tales & Critical Fails
Review & Images by Georgia Haupt
Percy Jackson meets Harry Potter meets Wrestlemania meets The Princess Bride meets four pilgrims in a pub who eventually meet (unfortunately for Cecil), a horny dragon.

Roll for initiative (and your entertainment) as Role Initiative Theatre Co. presents their hilariously chaotic adventure now showing at North Lakes Community Centre.
Director Peter Muir masterminds this comedic quest featuring four pilgrims carrying both sins and broken hearts, embarking on a journey that will have you simultaneously clutching your sides and your pearls. The mysterious contents of Cecil’s bag alone are worth the price of admission.
These hapless adventurers tempt fate with every roll of the dice, recounting their greatest battles and deepest woes while peppering the dialogue with ridiculous one-liners that would make even the most stoic dungeon master crack a smile. Hope they’ve got healing potions ready, because the audience was dying from laughter.

The production brilliantly marries the contemporary with the archaic—imagine Chappell Roan trying to split the bill using an abacus. It’s that kind of genre-bending madness that makes the show so refreshingly unpredictable.
As the night progresses, the suspense builds in perfect harmony with the witty humor, creating an experience that appeals to both D&D enthusiasts and theatrical newcomers alike.
Catch this critical hit tonight (May 10th) or next Friday (May 16th). Be warned: failing your saving throw against this show’s charm might result in uncontrollable laughter and a newfound interest in tabletop gaming.
