Review: Whatevfur
Whatevfur; a dog-themed improvisational comedy show held outdoors at Raymond park in Kangaroo Point on Saturday 27th July, was a happy collection of pawful puns, terrier-ific (over) acting, and doggy good times.
The beautiful Brisbane winter weather really showed up, as did the cast of up-for-anything improvisers, led by the even-handed Phoebe Maher, who facilitated and participated in the 8 or so sketch bits. Audience participation was, of course, encouraged, as it should be in improv, and the small crowd of about 10 of us were more than happy to help with creating dog-related scenarios.
The debate sketch (Australia’s next Prime Minister should be a chihuahua – for and against) and the Storytime sketch (Star Trek with dogs this time, but presumably different each performance) – were my favourites, and showed off the casts acting and improvisational skills the best.
The premise of the show is exciting – who wouldn’t want dog-themed comedy, but I felt the execution lacked a bit of professionalism and structure, although there was no doubt that the entire cast is talented and work well together. The performers clearly listen and react to each other well, and I have high hopes for their future success.
If you’re after supporting the next up-and-coming comedians and actors, keep up with Phoebe Maher and her team, as they are going places!
Whatevfur – what a fabulous fun show! Congrats to the talented pack. Phoebe Maher you are so clever and witty! .. Well Done!
Thanks Nishara, we loved having you and your dogs with us. We had a ball! ?? #furryfriends #goodtimes #grateful
Thank you for this review! It was paws-itively our pleasure to welcome you to our show – Whatevfur!
While we’ll never know ‘how much that doggy in the window’ actually is and we’ll all struggle to fur-get the dog’s anal gland expression slow-mo competition, I think Doggy Parton, Jon Bone Jovi & pals would give their appaws to hearing you and your two gorgeous canine companions thought it was a happy good time!
