TAXIDERMY GRANDMA MEDIA RELEASE
May 18-19, 2019
Her eyes are porcelain. They clink, like saucers and cups.
The ghosts are playing hide-and-seek with Grandma again. Joel pretends they’re not there. He’s busy with a plan to make Grandma live forever. Right now, Joel’s got her brain leaking from a bag. If only he had a better idea.
In a quiet nook off McLachlan Street, Taxidermy Grandmatransforms its audience into a haunt of ghosts. Behind face-paint and white robes, you’re invited to watch as Joel attempts to reroute his Grandmother’s fate.
Taxidermy Grandma looks at old age, and the challenges families face in navigating its throes. Writer/Director Gabe Francis discusses the idea behind the work, ‘I’ve watched my Grandparents forfeit parts of their adult identity as they’ve aged. Responsibilities that were once their own have fallen back on the rest of the family. My Grandparents are more carefree now than ever before. In the play, life is said to circle back. Adults become like children again and with that, old obstacles re-emerge.’
