Lamps Are Hot is an immersive dance-theatre experience that explores what it really means to feel sexy — or not.
From the slouchy shuffle out of bed to the wine-fueled wobble home, journey through a day in the life of sexiness in all its awkward, empowered, hilarious forms. Through bold physicality, throwback hits of all genres, suspicious fashion choices, and a full cast of lighting fixtures, the question is asked: what switches us on… and what doesn’t?
Creator/Performer Jaya (they/them) is a Brisbane-based artist with over seven years of experience in the dance, arts, and events industries across Southeast Queensland, Melbourne, and internationally. Jaya brings a unique blend of cheeky irreverence and a strong work ethic to their craft, acknowledging the queer community for a lot of that influence. Holding both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, they excel in improvisation and audience engagement, with a particular passion for character creation and storytelling. Coming off the bat of a Matilda Award Nomination in 2024 for ‘A Night With the Villains’ by Mira Ball Productions, Jaya is thrilled to be premiering their first solo work.
