The BLACKLIGHT SESSIONS – a darkly forensic music salon series.

Bringing together four of Brisbane’s most acclaimed vocalist/performers, BLACKLIGHT SESSIONS investigates, reinterprets and uncovers the music and songs of an eclectic and startling array of iconic artists. Stripped back arrangements, a deep love of the material, surprising musical re-imaginings. and a strict 30-minute set limit each forms the brief for these artists to present and explore the absolutely essential songs of their chosen songwriters.

Carefully curated and hosted by Electric Moon’s James Lees, BLACKLIGHT SESSIONS follows on from the acclaimed BLACKLIGHT series staged at The Junk Bar throughout 2019.

Presented in a beautiful, iconic Brisbane home, BLACKLIGHT SESSIONS will feature these four artists uncovering:

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

KARL S. WILLIAMS is a genre defying, multi-instrumentalist and award-winning artist. Karl has performed at festivals and venues throughout the country including Bluesfest, the Woodford Folk Festival, Festival of Small Halls, Dark MOFO, Panama, Queenscliff Music Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival, among many others.

LUCINDA SHAW (she/they) is a vocalist, songwriter, actor and visual artist. With a reputation for dynamic performances, Lucinda recently performed in the immersive theatre works A Midnight Visit and Love Lust Lost. Also well known as the lead vocalist of Silver Sircus, Lucinda has performed at festivals nationally including Queensland and Melbourne Cabaret Festivals and Woodford Folk Festival. A passionate supporter of emerging artists, diversity, inclusion and authentic free expression, Lucinda is one of Brisbane’s most beloved and highly respected artists.

JOSH DAVETA (they/them) is a POC & Queer singer/songwriter, actor, musician, writer, producer and cabaret artist. They have toured with their critically acclaimed shows Teenage Dreams, My Prerogative and Like Mariah. They were also part of Electric Moon’s 15th Anniversary Hedwig & The Angry Inch concert and In The Warm Room: Songs of Kate Bush. Josh was festival host for Brisbane Festival’s Arcadia and also starred in Oscar Production Company’s boy&girl. Josh is the director of JDProCo, a company elevating BIPOC, POC, Queer & Female artists.

MIA GOODWIN is a vocalist, performer and songwriter with much-loved Brisbane band It’s Magnetic. Known for their haunting, sparse and darkly atmospheric beats, guitar/bass textures and Mia’s yearning vocals, the band released their debut album in 2020 and have performed at many Brisbane venues. Mia was also a featured vocalist in Electric Moon’s acclaimed production FIRE WALK WITH US: The Music Of Twin Peaks presented in three sellout Brisbane seasons, at Melbourne Cabaret Festival and around Australia with The Twin Peaks Cast In Conversation Tour.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

ELECTRIC MOON is the moniker of award-winning creative producer/musical director James Lees. The company creates concert events, and curated performance works. Recent shows include ZIGGY STARDUST , Lou Reed’s TRANSFORMER: The Album In Concert, HEDWIG 15, IN THE WARM ROOM: The Music Of Kate Bush 1978-1980 and FIRE WALK WITH US: The Music Of Twin Peaks. In 2018, Electric Moon co-presented the Matilda Award winning THE SOUND OF A FINISHED KISS, an original stage work featuring the music of The Go-Betweens. More recently, Electric Moon has produced the BLACKLIGHT concert series at The Junk Bar, MOUNTAIN SOUNDS series at Mount Nebo and SILVER SIRCUS: Home/Truth for Anywhere Festival 2022.

This performance is presented as a house concert at Australian Modern, a private home located in Carina. Detailed information (including venue address) will be provided privately at time of ticket purchase.
