The Cave

Presented by We That Are Left

How do you know what you know?

Come and sit in a 320 degree, automated virtual environment (CAVE2), one of only 4 of its kind in the world. World-class musicians Sally Clarke (Viola) and Louise King (cello) will perform a classical repertoire, but you’ll be blindfolded with only your phone to help you ‘see’.

This project uses a contemporary experience to explore the ‘Allegory of the Cave’, which Plato devised to explain how we come to know things.

‘Like the fire that cast light on the walls of the cave, the human condition is forever bound to the impressions that are received through the senses’.

Sally Clarke, viola player, is a member of the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart (SWR) since 1992, Sally is now also a member of the highly acclaimed Australian World Orchestra. She has appeared with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and also with Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt.

Louise King is refined cellist who has worked extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Asia with the BBC Philharmonic, the Hallé Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. As Artistic Director of Cello Dreaming Louise is an inspiring teacher and events producer who also performs with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Topology and The Queensland Orchestra.

Come and experience a unique performance and let your senses and your phone help you contemplate the acquisition of knowledge.
