Ariadne (LIMITED TIX)

Presented by BYTES Theatre Company

Find Yourself

Journey into the centre of the labyrinth where the only way out is by following Ariadne’s thread.

This year, after their 2018 Anywhere Award winning Metamorphoses (the swimming pool play), the BYTES theatre company takes us on another immersive ‘anywhere’ experience – a journey into the labyrinth of Minos, uniquely staged in the intricate Bellingham Maze on the Sunshine Coast.

The Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur is explored in a mesmerising fusion of voice and movement, as the company takes the audience on a journey through the space whilst bringing the tale of Ariadne to life.

The twists and turns of the path explore the non linear nature of time in the labyrinth, as the audience may follow the narrative or find themselves returning to past scenes or exploring undiscovered ones.

Only Ariadne can get us through the labyrinth with her red thread; proving that to find yourself you have to get lost.

  1. Amazing

Loved the mood that was set, walking around the maze, the smoke, the actors!
    We want to go again!

  2. Get lost in the labyrinth!

What an incredible journey! The Bytes team led us through the labyrinth and around every corner we found ourselves in another scene. The atmosphere was eerie with the dark night light only by lamps and the moon. The actors were fantastic in their roles as the story of Ariadne and the Minotaur wove its way through the maze, with its alternative possible endings we truly felt the dizziness that being caught in a maze causes! I loved this production it was something I had never experienced before and would recommend it to anyone, support local theatre and the up and coming actors of the future.

  4. Another wonderfully atmospheric production by the Bytes team. Walking about a labyrinth while watching the story of an ancient labyrinth fabulous! Would thoroughly recommend.

  5. Lose yourself in a wonderful theatrical maze

Sensational night at the amazing performance of “Ariadne” delivered by the amazing young people from BYTE – Buderim Youth Theatre of Excellence as part of the Anywhere Festival

This is the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and the talented team explore this with a mesmerising fusion of voice and movement. The talented cast takes the audience on a journey through the maze whilst bringing the tale of Ariadne to life.

Yes! You venture inside the intricate Bellingham Maze and weave your way around in the dark (with guides, thank goodness!) to each of the performance scenes – a journey into the labyrinth of Minos.

Depending which way you turn, you might see a repeat scene as you immerse into the labyrinth, so make sure you choose wisely!

The setting is unique, the costumes/talent/movement/special FX stunning! (My husband loved being a portable lighting “tech” as well!)
A huge BRAVO and well done to Robyn Ernst, Jo Hendrie, the choreographer, entire production team and of course all the amazing actors who looked and sounded fantastic.

Unique theatre in a challenging outdoor location – we were mesmerized! (OR should I say… maze-merised!)

  6. Simply stunning

A truly memorable experience with a remarkable cast. One of the most creative pieces of theatre I’ve ever seen. So glad my daughter got tickets for us. Well done to all.

  7. Brilliant Theatre

This was a mesmerising anywhere theatre festival experience from start to finish. From the moment you walk through the waterfall you are transported. Deep inside the maze, the smoke wafts over the hedges and light captures it to create an unforgettable mood. Above, the starry sky. You hear voices and other scenes all around the maze and this only adds to the excitement. Fabulous acting and intricate direction . This is what an Anywhere Theatre Festival show should be….. Ariadne weaves the space through the theatre experience and the two are inseparable . Stunning

  8. Wonderful Night✨

What a wonderful night, so much fun moving around the maze, we all had a great night, costumes and scenery was perfect. Great job Bytes. 🌟

  9. Capturing the essence of the Anywhere Theater Festival

Stunning performance! Expertly acted and directed.
You are fully immersed in as you take your role as a tribute – will Theseus slay the Minator? Will Ariadne save her brother? Which sister will fall for the handsome warrior? A cold night, a starry sky, smoke drifting, haunting music, surrounded by Gods, Priestesses and Athenian youth – this was the most intriguing theater experience imaginable.

  10. Exciting and very entertaining

This atmospheric production wowed me with its depth and variety in the scenes set in the maze. From the moment you stepped through the waterfall till the very end, winding our way through the maze and being entranced by the Greek methodologywas exciting and very entertaining. The cast were well connected to each other and portrayed the drama of the play extremely well.

  11. Theatre - a communal experience!

Don’t expect to sit back and watch. You make the journey through the labyrinth with Ariadne and Theseus! Clever use of lights, smoke and soundscape set the mood as the audience makes its way through the hedges. Solid chorus work and effective imagery make the story clear despite the non-linear structure of the play. There was a particularly strong moment in the centre of the maze when surrounded by red smoke and green laser lights, Theseus and the Minotaur struggle at the top of a tower. Another highlight was Ariadne’s emotional response at the conclusion of the play. What a wonderful opportunity for the performers to be part of such an interesting production!

  12. Time is an illusion in BYTE's Ariande.

This production was a revelation. The vision of its director, Robyn Ernst, was to create a visual feast that captured the look and feel of this timeless piece of Greek mythology. She succeeded. The setting in the Bellingham Maze, and the staggered staging of concurrent performances captured the past, present, and future of Ariande’s journey through the labyrinth. One was transported through echoes of her life staged in the earlier and later performances in the midst of the one I was witnessing. A brilliant reading and ably performed by the young and energetic cast. A night to remember.

  13. Brilliant

WOW – this was an awesome and unique production. The atmosphere while moving around the maze really added to telling of this classic story. Thank you Robyn Ernst and the BYTES team.

  14. Fabulous example of unique theatre

Wow! What a night. Such a unique experience to make our way through the labyrinth at night, accompanied by atmospheric music, mist (smoke) and our own audience-lighting crew, twisting and turning, jumping forward and backward in time as the story, much like Ariadne’s thread, weaves and unweaved before us. The performances were powerful, the shrieks of tributes elsewhere in the labyrinth were haunting, the choreography required to pull it all together was impressive. I felt fully immersed in Ariadne’s story in a way I don’t think I would have in a theatre. It was great for my kids to see theatre doesn’t have to occur on a stage. The cooler weather added to the atmosphere for us and the cast did a great job of looking like they were warm and toasty in Greece when they must have been a bit chilly.

  15. Aa surprise at each turn - amazing performance!

A chill rose up my spine and the cool air was filled with a sense of mystery of what was to come .It was a cold night that was true, but boy did it add to the drama Ariadne was set in. The Belingham Maze was the perfect backdrop for the tale of King Minos, his daughter Ariadne and the feared and misunderstood Asterion the Minotaur monster. The lighting was earily scant, the Grecian costumes beautifully fitting in a largely red and black themed cast reflectiving passion and impending tradgedy. The cast were mature and well versed and I really enjoyed the interchanging Ariadne’s almost belying her internal torment. The female cast members were becoming and the males comanding – all superb. As the story developed at each turn so too did we enter the depths of the maze, unsure of where we were heading. Amazing! thankyou BYTES for an incredible performance, another brilliant job by Robyn and the team.

  16. A-Mazing! A captivating and innovative performance.

I really didn’t know what to expect when I arrived at the maze. After a short wait in the car park, we were lead into the maze. A sensational setting for this captivating performance. The Bytes cast were outstanding. Moving from scene to scene through the maze in the low light was wonderful, with suspense building as the story unfolded. All of the cast were great. Wonderful costumes and lighting that perfectly set the scene. The actors leading us through the maze did an amazing job of staying in character the whole time – almost unsettling in some moments! I positively loved the show.

Congratulations Robyn and the Bytes team – The complexity of running multiple shows with mixed casts simultaneously was handled brilliantly. Setting the show in the maze was genius! Your string of sell-outs were well deserved! Thanks for a great night of wonderful entertainment.

  17. An immersive theatrical adventure, cleverly written and designed, and brilliantly performed.

As we, the audience, were lead through the dark corridors of the maze – with dramatic music, lamplight, distant cries from within the labyrinth, and the moonlit sky all adding to the atmosphere – my heart raced and I was filled childlike wonder and excitement.
Each twist and turn revealed another performance space, where compelling young actors vividly brought to life this powerful tale of Greek Mythology. Tension built as we travelled between scenes, wondering what lurked around the corner.
Each member of this wonderful cast gave an excellent, polished performance, with great strength in physicality and voice. The storytelling was superb.
This brilliantly written adaptation was created specifically to suit this stunning location – the outer and inner sanctums of the maze- and the result was magnificent.
Congratulations BYTES on what was a unique and unforgettable production.
