  1. Wonderful Work

Great direction and use of the space, the Girl Guides Hall in Buderim. The stairs and the poles were used creatively and entrances and exits were conceived brilliantly.
Actors were strong and dynamic. A lot of experienced performers in this piece and it showed.

This was a very detailed production with great props and costuming. Loved the 19th century scissors and the unforgettable O machine! I also thought the use of pillows on the upright wall was a master stroke.

Although I appreciate, the limitations of the venue, the austere, fluorescent lighting was an element of this production that I did not enjoy. Perhaps candle light ( fake of course in the wooden Guide hall) could have been introduced in the pre electrical era scenes and this would have offered a variation if other lighting was not possible.
There was however, excellent use of sound effects and music, which added to the performance.

Elaine Avila’s wrote the play which is essentially a series of vignettes. Although linked in theme, there were no connections between them however ( apart from scenery changing) which meant the context was sometimes lost between the different scenes and the introduction of new stories. I believe, transitions were needed to make the theme clearer and this is a note to the playwright.

Regardless, I enjoyed the vignettes of Jane Austin Action Figure. This was a well crafted piece for the Anywhere Theatre Festival and the director Anne Grant and her cast should be proud of their stellar effort. They allowed us to see into very different worlds of women. Well Done!
