I’ll Count Myself In REVIEW by Lara Qualtrough

Charming first-time performance from a comedic musician

Beyonce. Bono. And Thing. Tane? No, it’s THIEN!

A laugh-a-minute performance by newcomer Thien Pham. Pham is used to being in the corner, supporting other performers and comfortably out of the spotlight. In I’ll Count Myself In, Pham provides a glimpse into the world of the lesser-known. Pham’s piano accompanist character provides hilarious insight through songs with some minor lyrical tweaks.

To keep the pressure off a first-time performer in this one-man show, we are introduced to some interesting and talkative characters. The props are simple and well placed and the timing of the conversational cues is spot on. The sound could have been a little louder. Pham could have been a little more in control of his movements, his nervous energy obvious and somewhat infectious. However, Pham provided an entertaining (but far too short!) meander through his performance and I look forward to seeing, and hearing, more work from this fresh talent.

I’ll Count Myself In can be seen at Fortitude Valley’s Daily Planet, 6.30pm on Wednesday 23rd May. Get tickets from https://anywhere.is/listings/myself/ now before you miss out on this cute and jaw-hurtingly funny show!
