Betty Nicholson and Lyn Panetta and Anywhere Festival

Experience the magical mystery of a Skydome virtual tour through the planets accompanied by a live performance on two pianos of the original version of Gustav Holst’s ‘The Planets’.

Join Betty Nicholson and Lyn Panetta on two pianos for an out-of-this-world experience in the wonderful auditorium at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium – music to accompany colourful projections of our solar system.

Betty Nicholson and Lyn Panetta met in their teens when they were studying music together and it was then that they discovered the magic and fun of playing two-piano works together. They have explored and performed many two-piano works from the repertoire and enjoy presenting them to audiences both young and old.

THE PLANETS (Gustav Holst)

Dating from the years 1914 -1916, ‘The Planets’ is a suite of seven movements based on the planets of the Solar System and their supposed astrological character. Holst became fascinated with astrology after a 1913 holiday in Spain with fellow composer Arnold Bax and his brother Clifford Bax.

‘The Planets’ was originally composed for two pianos and later orchestrated which makes it different from many works of this genre as they are most often arrangements of an original orchestral work.
