Native Tongue
Presented by Vanessa Gordon
Migration stories, diverse voices one journey.
An evening of storytelling. Native Tongue: Migration Stories.
Picture this: standing in the customs line, unpacking a coconut broom, a buk na kakailai, tins of bully beef, poi balls, a lifetime supply of biltong, sulus, and jars of pickled treats, family jewelry passed down through generations, maybe a little bit of generational trauma. Some joy and fear, along with Grandma’s kiwi biscuit recipe.
The spoken word performance features Vanessa Gordon’s poetry and showcases diverse storytellers sharing their journeys to Queensland. From European roots to the South Pacific, Sri Lanka, parts of Africa, and from across the ditch, Aotearoa.
With a blend of laughter and depth, discover how their unique paths intersect while celebrating vibrant cultures. Connecting through storytelling and shared humanity.
