An intimate evening of chamber music at Australian Modern with award wining cellist Dr Danielle Bentley and pianist Leanne Swanson, exploring sensuous repertoire for cello and piano.
Join in a meandering through four centuries where melodic themes are interwoven like lovers, finishing each other’s sentences…We move from the beautiful theme of the slow movement of the third da gamba sonata of Bach, through Beethoven’s passionate outpouring in the A major cello sonata, the Jewish sounds of a prayer by Bloch, a rapturous song of Spain by Glazunov, Mendelssohn’s beautiful song without words, a Chopin adagio that is pure, unadulterated emotion.
The evening will embrace Schumann’s fantasies, and a wonderful heart rendingnpassacaglia by Rebecca Clarke culminating in the sensuous, wild grand tango of Piazzolla. For both Danielle and Leanne music is a reflection of their personalities, a direct extension of themselves and their extremely expressive musical abilities. Both very accomplished musicians with a love of performing intimate concerts in the settings for which the music was intended.
Danielle was Australian Arts Fellow at Omi Music Residency, New York, in 2018; & in 2014 was awarded the APRA-AMCOS Art Music Award for Excellence by an Individual. She works extensively across many genres and musical contexts.
Leanne is a sought-after chamber musician who has worked extensively across Australia and New Zealand. She has been the recipient of many accolades and prizes, & is a specialist in music by female composers.
