presented by The Giddy Round Theatre
This Little World begins where Shakespeare’s Richard II ends, with the former King Richard imprisoned, and his troubled reign at an end.
The adaptation for solo performance finds Richard reflecting on the circumstances that caused his confinement, and conjuring the people and the scenes of his personal history, utilizing intricate, kinetic body-puppetry and a host of deeply-invested voices and characterizations.
A product of the social and civic turmoil of 2020, the play grapples with themes of isolation, civil dislocation, and political upheaval, mining the poetry, humor and pathos of a classic history play that is deeply relevant to the state of the modern world.
Previously performed in partnership with the Atlantic City Theatre (USA), and as an Official Selection of the Living Record Festival (UK) and the Lagos Theatre Festival (Nigeria).
“It is a clever adaption, highly watchable…but most of all the performance of Owen Corey grips the audience.” – review, Pocket Size Theatre.
“Playful. Thoughtful. Highly inventive.” – We The Wonderful.
