Presented by Menaka Thomas & Friends
Inspired by unprecedented events of the last year, On The Horizon is a world music journey taking the audience through the depths of despair, struggle and suffering, to the hope, surrender and stillness that we yearn for beyond the horizon.
Menaka Thomas, a singer trained in South Indian Classical (Carnatic) music, combines traditional music with contemporary influences, to depict stories of struggle and hope.
In this production, Menaka collaborates with the breathtaking Bindu Rajendren, a dancer from the traditional Indian dance style of Mohiniattam. Their combined emotion, drama and narrative are supported by the instrumental brilliance of Meg Burstow (piano), Evan Osborne (bass) and Tsoof Baras (percussion).
On The Horizon made its debut at the Queensland Multicultural Centre in November 2020 to a sold-out audience. The design and concept of the show has been evolved and adapted to fit more snugly with the immersive intention of the Anywhere Festival.
“A cultural, musical, spiritual…and sensory immersion”
