In a world of mirrors and nightmares, inspired by Goya’s "Los Caprichos", surreal characters guide the audience through a journey into the tyrannies of our own vanity.A physical-theatre masquerade performance in which provocative multi-lingual narratives blend into a succession of deeply touching poetic moments.

29 April 2022 - 7 May 2022

Presented by:

D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective and Anywhere Festival

Caprichos is an emotionally charged journey into the whims, caprices and desires of human nature.

In a world of labyrinths and mirrors, dreams and nightmares, a parade of surreal characters invite each audience member to contemplate how far they have drifted from their true selves in the name of vanity and social acceptance.

Inspired by Francisco de Goya’s “Los Caprichos”, D.I.V.E. Collective’s masquerade performance combines movement, visual arts, music, literature, philosophy, provocative narratives and multi-lingual perspectives into a succession of poetic moments that are both striking and deeply touching.

A tantalising tale in which brutishness can appear to be strength, calculation can appear to be love and corruption can appear to be inevitable. How can we get free of the tyrannies of our own vanity?

Devised by a spectacular ensemble of multicultural performers, who have metaphor as their common language, Caprichos is a timeless reflection on the duplicity, deceit and hypocrisy of contemporary society.

Where are we going? What is truly missing?

Caprichos is supported by the RADF (a partnership between the Queensland Government and Sunshine Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland) and the Sunshine Coast Arts Foundation Gifted Program.
