Review of 6pm May 12 performance, by Annie March.
Buy Some Time was designed by Bec Redsell and developed by Tannlark Studios. This show is running at the Queensland Maritime Museum May 10-26 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with shows at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. It is also showing at Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens May 11-26 every Saturday and Sunday with shows at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.
Have you ever wanted to stop and smell the roses but you were late for work? Have you ever noticed a pretty spot but then had to run for the bus? Then this show is for you.
The special thing about Buy Some Time is that you get what you want out of it. It is a guided walk through popular picturesque locations that you have never taken the time to appreciate.
In a world where we spend far too much time looking at our phones, it was nice to have a phone tell me to stop and look around.
How the Show Works
The app guides you where to go with pictures and a voice. You could tell how much planning had gone into this stage, and it all worked seamlessly.
This show turned things around, so the world became the performance and we were the lucky audience members. It was lovely to have some time to myself and just appreciate.
There was even a section where previous audience members had recorded their experience and you got to listen back to them.
The only thing I wished for this performance was that it was longer, which speaks to the quality of the show.
Buy Some Time is a breath of fresh air, literally. You can tell how much heart and consideration for mental wellness has gone into this app development. The app even goes through the purchasing of ‘time’ at the beginning and then emails you a receipt at the end.
You can see Buy Some Time at the Maritime Museum and Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens until May 26. For more information and to purchase tickets visit: https://anywhere.is/listings/buysometime/.
