Andrew Veivers

Red Chair is a Queensland-based performing arts and event management company that specialises in the staging and management of social and cultural events, including major festivals, tours, conferences, corporate functions, product launches, and performances.

 The company’s artist management services are dedicated to supporting world/jazz/folk/classical artists and productions and services include bookings, promotion/marketing, and merchandise.

 For Anywhere Festival Red Chair presents Andrew Veivers’ Guitarra y Cuarteto with The Black Square Quartet.

 Of Kamilaroi, Dutch and Scottish heritage, Andrew Veivers was born in Australia in 1969 and has been based in Coolum Beach on Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi land for the past eighteen years. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in 1993 from the University of Queensland (St. Lucia), where he majored in classical guitar,  Andrew concentrated on developing a career as a concert artist and spent several years studying, teaching and performing in London, Madrid and Amsterdam. At venues ranging from Blenheim Palace (UK) to The Dillington Classical Guitar Festival (UK) to chamber music series’ in The Netherlands, concerts in Japan, the South Pacific as well as at many venues and festivals throughout Australia, Andrew has appeared as a soloist, with his groups Flamenco Fire and The Saruzu Quartet as well as guest director/ composer/ arranger/ performer and producer for great Australian artistic institutions such as The Sydney Theatre Company, Opera Queensland and the Woodford Folk Festival to great critical acclaim.

 Black Square Quartet was founded in 2018. Inspired by the iconic and controversial artwork The Black Square by Kasimir Malevich, one of the first true examples of artistic minimalism, the quartet aims to challenge and inspire audiences with unique and innovative repertoire choices. Strong advocates of new & Australian music, the quartet has premiered works by composers including Thomas Green, Ken Thomson, Cathy Likhuta, Marike Van Dijk, Brenda Gifford, Richard Grantham, and Philip Eames. They have collaborated with some of Australia’s finest musicians and ensembles, including Trichotomy, Shugorei, Sarah Curro, Aaron Brown, Steve Newcomb, and various others.
