Mermaid Avenue are a Brisbane/Meanjin band formed in 2015 around the song writing of Peter Clarke. Described by Scenestr magazine as ‘..peddling a fluid brand of indie rock, country-rock to alt country, indie folk, and bluesy Americana’, the band have released two albums to date (‘Temptation and Half the Truth’ (2018) and ‘Sugartown’ (2022)) that have been warmly received by critics and listeners alike. Songs from both albums have been finalists in global song writing competitions (including Blues and Roots Radio’s International Song of the Year 2019, 2021 and 2022) and the band’s music will soon be featured as part of the soundtrack of the yet to be released Australian movie ‘Hero’.
Recently nominated by Indie Rock News as one of the ’10 Indie/Alt-Rock Artists You Should Hear Now’, the band started releasing songs from their latest album ‘Loveday No. 9’ in 2023 and are launching the full album as part of Moreton’s Anywhere Festival in June.
