With an arsenal of new characters and fresh sketches in tow, The Sexy Detectives return to the Anywhere Festival in 2016 for one night only with their new show, Hyperbole!

After audience members dubbed their last Anywhere Festival show, “Easily one of the highlights of the Anywhere Festival” and, “Filled with funny”, the troupe have chosen May 6th 2016 to debut Hyperbole! in the Studio Theatre at MetroArts.

“We’ve been beavering away writing heaps of brand new material and we’re keen to show it off to audiences,” explains the troupe’s producer David Massingham. “And for good luck, we’re sprinkling in a handful of old favourites.”

The Sexy Detectives have plenty of experience making audiences laugh with their character-based humour. They enjoyed a sell-out season at the 2014 Wonderland Festival, and garnered critical and popular successes throughout 2014 and 2015 at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Melbourne Fringe Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

They are also multi-award winners and nominees at film festivals, with wins for Best Skit and then People’s Choice Award at back-to-back Rottofest’s Funniest Shorts contests in 2011 and 2012. They were finalists again in 2013 and 2014.

“It was gratifying to win the respect and the laughter of the punters at Rottofest not once, but twice,” says Massingham.

“Another highlight was scoring international recognition at the 2013 LA Comedy Fest, where we had an honourable mention for their Best of the Fest: Short Film category.”

However, it is live on stage that The Sexy Detectives feel most at home.

“There’s nothing quite like making that immediate connection with an audience,” says Massingham. “When a room is really cooking, that energy is undeniable.”
