“It’s time to explore your nooks and crannies,” said Paul Osuch, Artistic Director of Anywhere Festival.

Proudly hosted by Mackay Regional Council and Isaac Regional Council, Anywhere Festival is ten days of performances and events anywhere within the Mackay City Centre and Isaac Regions including drama in hair salons and libraries, dance in squash courts, comedy on golf courses, music and cabaret in restaurants and alleys. Anywhere but a theatre.

“The Anywhere Festival is about fun shows in interesting spaces at affordable prices so that anyone can go to a few shows and explore spaces in a different way. That’s really the key and why I love this festival,” said Paul

The festival has run for four years in Brisbane and in 2012 was named one of the “Top Nine International Festivals You Must See!” by QANTAS Travel Insider along with big established intentional festival like Edinburgh Fringe and Salzburg Festival.

Now it is Mackay and Isaac’s turn.

The festival features a mix of local and visiting performers with performances in Mackay City Centre, Dysart, Moranbah, Middlemount and Nebo. Amongst many highlights:

  • “Mining My Own Business” – Comedian Xavier Toby’s show based on his book about life as a FIFO worker on a mine coming to Mackay, Moranbah and Middlemount or his walking our from the future “2015 – When We Were Idiots” starting at Oaks Rivermarque
  • “Murder in Moranbah”. Join the Isaac Theatrical Players to solve the murder in Moranbah
  • Hear “The Secret Life of a Librarian” where else but in Moranbah, Dysart and Nebo Library
  • Catch the cabaret sensation double bill of “Dead!” and “Hangry White Female” or The Goon show inspired radio comedy “The Smooth End of The Pineapple” at Seven On Wood in Mackay City Centre

Mackay Regional Council Mayor Deirdre Comerford said she was delighted that Mackay and Isaac were the first regional areas in Australia to be selected to host the Anywhere Festival.

“The event really shows that our two councils can work together to successfully stage a festival which covers both our regions.”

“It’s great to see our arts and business communities working together with the organisers to create a program that is unique, affordable, and a lot of fun – I’m looking forward to taking my family to an event or two.”

Acting Isaac Regional Council Mayor Dale Appleton said he is excited to see local performers entertain crowds in some unusual places around town.

“As well as a cultural celebration, the Anywhere Festival gives us a great opportunity to get behind our region’s local businesses.”

“The Anywhere Festival is a fantastic showcase of talent, diversity, art and culture that we warmly embrace.”

The launch also featured the following acts at the 1pm launch today at Oaks Rivermarque, 55-63 River Street, Mackay include:
