The Bohemian And The Machine

Presented by A Very Theatre Company

Two brilliant, discordant minds and the decade that breaks them.

“Hinz’s work covers conflict between fact and faith, science and religion, instinct and strategy.” Downstage Discernments

Illustrated by the canvas of our night sky, bear witness to ten years in the life of a religious girl and a not-so-religious boy in rural Australia. Both infinitely fascinated by the glamour of the universe, but inherently opposed in how they choose to interpret it; Paul and Izzy are two equally brilliant minds that clash and enamour eachother with the ferocity of their ideals. As we weave in and out of time, witness how this battle shapes them over the course of a decade. But as they grow older and the stakes are raised, their ability to compromise is bound to stretch beyond its capacity.

  1. Don't miss this show!

This simply staged two-hander is a theatrical gem. From the first moment on stage, the actors create a connection between each other and to the audience that never lets up. William Hinz’s perfectly pitched script ties what could have been a collection of vignettes into a tightly controlled narrative that builds to a poignant climax. Without giving us easy answers, or stereotyping the characters, the play explores conflicting ideologies and the conflicts they can create. Both actors give impressive performances, with Zanye Lake excelling in bringing out the subtlety and complexity of his character’s emotions and Ashleigh Denning delineating the different ages of her character with ease. There’s only one more performance to go – catch this while you can!
